چکیده

A method is described to make a direct measurement of the horizontal and vertical momentum dispersion of the electron and positron beams as they pass through the chromatic correction sections (CCS) of tbe SLC final focus systems. The metbod is advantageous since it cleanly separates betatron components of the beam size from dispersive components, can be measured during standard colliding beams machine conditions in a minute or two, and directly measures the energy-position correlation within the heam.

Improvements in Emittance Wakefield Optimization for the Slac Linear Collider

The transverse emittances in the SLAC Linear Collider can be severely diluted by collective wakefield effects and dispersion. For the 1997/98 SLC/SLD run important changes were implemented in the way the emittance is optimized. Early in the linac, where the energy spread is large due to BNS damping, the emittance growth is dominated by dispersion. In this regime emittance tuning bumps may intro...

Measuring Micron Size Beams in the SLC Final Focus

A pair of high resolution wire scanners have been built and installed in the SLC final focus. The final focus optics uses a set of de-magnifying telescopes, and an ideal location for a beam size monitor is at one of the magnified image points of the interaction point. The image point chosen for these scanners is in the middle of a large bend magnet. The design beam spots here are about 2 micron...

Beam Based Alignment of the SLC Final Focus Sextupoles*

The strong demagnification inherent in final focus systems requires local cancellation of the resulting chromaticity. Strong sextupole pairs separated by a -I transform are positioned x12 in betatron phase away from the Interaction Point (IP) in order to cancel chromatic aberrations primarily due to the final quadrupoles. Sextupole alignment is critical in order to provide orthogonal tuning of ...

Measured Emittance versus Store Time in the SLC Damping Ring

Emittance studies at the SLC North Damping Ring led to precise measurements of the damping time using three independent methods. These measurements were done at three different locations: (1) in the ring using a fast gated video camera which allows the acquisition of the image of the synchrotron light from a single turn, (2) using the extracted beam and a single wire scanner in the ringto-linac...

The Wire Scanner System of the Final Focus Test Beam

The system of wire scanners in use at the FFTB at SLAC is described. In addition to the scanners themselves, there is a discussion of detectors for the scattering from the wires, and of the procedure for handling beam spots of large aspect ratio.
